Factory 112: Lonesome Cowboys & Brave Hearts

December 4, 7pm

In 1994, Thorson and Gin self-produced Harry Rintoul’s searing AIDS drama Brave Hearts, set atypically in the back yard of a party in Saskatoon. On the evening of December 4 as part of events honoring World AIDS Day, Brave Hearts receives a staged reading at Calgary’s Loft 112 in Calgary’s East Village, with Thorson and Gin back in the saddle as GW and Rafe.

A panel discussion follows, with representatives from the Calgary Gay History Project, HIV Community Link and Chromatic Theatre participating. Why revisit the show two decades later? There’s a feeling that people need to be reminded of the impact of AIDS in the community, especially the younger generation of gay youth who never witnessed its devastation first-hand and so much of this play is about loneliness, and the need to reconnect.

This award winning script will run as part of  the successful Warhol-inspired Factory 112 series at Loft 112 facilited by Steve Gin.  Factory 112: Lonesome Cowboys & Brave Hearts runs for one night only at #112, 535 – 8th Avenue SE on Friday, December 4, 2015. Doors open at 7 pm with a 7:30 pm start. Admission is by donation, with all proceeds going to support HIV Community Link.

Charlotte Cranston is Edmonton's first Youth Poet Laureate and a two-time member of the Edmonton Slam Team. She loves the smell of lilacs and the sound of distant lawnmowers

Mary Pinkoski was the City of Edmonton's 5th Poet Laureate from 2013 - 2015. As an internationally recognized spoken word artist, Mary tours on stages across the world, including most recently at the Winter Lights Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland. She is a Canadian National Slam Champion and a CBC Poetry Faceoff National Champion. When she is not performing, she works as a spoken word educator giving workshops for writers of all ages.

Played by suburban couples, ladies who lunch, your grandparents, and the young and hip whiling away fireside time at cabins, the game of Bridge is an intellectually challenging and enjoyable card game that only requires you to have a deck of cards, three friends to play with, a pencil and a pad to keep score, and a sharp mind.

Intended for the complete beginner, one who knows nothing, or almost nothing, about bridge.
