Why a community space
Loft 112 believes that writers and members of the larger creative Calgary community will benefit from an affordable space in which creative (writing) activities are organized, promoted, and shared. A central and established location for such a centre will enable individuals and groups to reserve affordable space in which to meet with others from the literary and creative community. The presence of an affordable and centralized writing and creative community will attract different groups to come together to share work, learn and teach, and celebrate both the art and study of contemporary word, craft and art.
The goal of Loft 112 is to foster an inclusive community of writers and artists from all aspects of literary and creative Calgary and to celebrate the residents of the East Village. Our hope is that our space and vision is open, varied, accepting and affordable to support writers and artists in the making and promotion of their craft. Loft 112 is a respectful community that welcomes and celebrates everyone and does not discriminate based on ability, age, orientation, nationality, gender nor religion. Anyone who contributes to community and respects those who are part of the Loft 112 community and the space itself is welcome. The loft is wheelchair accessible through the front lobby. Bathrooms are gender-neutral.
